Like Settle the Wreckage, this card is at its best when an opponent attacks you with a bunch of creatures

There are many permanents that provide a steady flow of card draw in black, too

It is also nice for Wizards to have a product that they can put in mechanically unique cards into, as you cant do this with regular sets

And in the worst case scenario, you could grab an opposing blocker and turn it into your attacker so your forces could come in for the win

See, not that hard, right

All of this explains why, despite March of the Machine arguably having the most differing showcase styles in a single set, it manages to pull it off so well
