Its chemical formula is based on the GIP amino acid sequence and its half-life of approximately 5 days is compatible with a once-weekly subcutaneous administration

Seven drugs have currently been approved for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus, including short-acting agents like exenatide and lixisenatide, as well as long-acting injectable agents such as albiglutide, dulaglutide, liraglutide, and semaglutide. GLP-1s regulate lipid metabolism, reducing the effects of hyperlipidemia and helping to lower the risk for both chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetic kidney disease. They have also been shown to reduce oxidative stress, which includes stimulating glomerular filtration and reducing vasoconstriction, slowing the progression of CKD. Limited data from clinical trials have been published on the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists in individuals with post-liver transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM)
